BALTIMORE (WGGB) — Red Sox slugger David Ortiz took out his frustration about a call during Saturday’s game on an unsuspecting phone.
Ortiz was at the plate, in the top of the seventh inning and facing a 3-2 count against Baltimore Orioles pitcher Jairo Asencio, when umpire Tim Timmons called a third strike against the Sox slugger.
Ortiz left home plate and headed back to the dugout, but not before voicing his displeasure about the call to Timmons.
A few moments later, Ortiz was back in the dugout when he used his bat to destroy a dugout phone, sending pieces of both the bat and the phone into the air.
The Sox DH was then ejected from the game, and Ortiz had to be restrained by Sox manager John Farrell as he tried to make his way back onto the field and to Timmons.
