Driver from Chicopee Cited in Belchertown Crash

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WGGB) — Investigators say one of the drivers involved in a crash Tuesday in Belchertown has been cited.

Tuesday afternoon, a Honda Pilot and a Jeep Wrangler collided with each other on Route 21, near Turkey Hill Road in Belchertown.

First Assistant Northwestern District Attorney Steve Gagne says that a preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the Jeep, 40-year-old Paul Genest of Chicopee, was heading southbound on Route 21, crossed over the center line of the roadway and hit the Honda, which was being operated by 19-year-old Emma Norden of Belchertown.

Both Genest and Norden were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Gagne adds that Belchertown Police have cited Genest for negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stay within marked lanes.

The collision remains under investigation by the Belchertown Police Department and the Mass. State Police accident reconstruction team.
