Fire crews worked into this afternoon to clear the damage from a fire that began just before 2:30 today.
There was only one occupant — and she was not home at the time , but she said she had several cats in the house.
The Springfield Fire Department said the flames did significant damage.
“It definitely started in the kitchen,” said Springfield Fire Department Public Information Officer Dennis Leger. “It appears to be electrical, it’s not suspicious. There’s probably about $125,000 in damage there. There’s real heavy damage to the first and second floor.”
The fire was believed to have originated in a small pantry attached to the kitchen.
Leger did not say whether the woman would be displaced from her home tonight.
