Jury to Hear Closing Arguments in Bulger Trial

BULGER TRIALBOSTON (AP) — Jurors in James “Whitey” Bulger’s racketeering trial can expect to hear lengthy closing arguments from prosecutors and defense attorneys as they lay out their views of the case.

Closing arguments are scheduled for Monday in Boston in the nearly two-month trial.

The judge has granted each side up to three hours and 15 minutes for its argument but urged lawyers to consider the jury’s ability to stay focused for that long.

Bulger fled Boston in 1994. He was one of the nation’s most-wanted fugitives until he was captured in Santa Monica, Calif., in 2011.

He’s pleaded not guilty to participating in 19 murders, laundering money and committing weapons offenses and other crimes.

His lawyers have focused on trying to rebut evidence Bulger killed two women and was an FBI informant.
