City, North End Residents Meet to Discuss Riverfront and Sky Bridge

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — On Monday, we told you about residents concerned over the condition of the River Walk in Springfield and those people say today was a step in the right direction.

North End residents and the City of Springfield got together and talked about getting the elevator accessible for disabled people and cleaning up the bike path of debris and overgrown weeds.

They’re happy and optimistic about the outcome of today’s meeting.

“We are talking to Western Mass. Electric, Peter Picknelly, and everybody that owns land around there that we could sit down and really work…we the people…to fix everything up, and clean it up and be a warm, wonderful bike path that everybody can enjoy,” says resident Jose Claudio.

Claudio says they’re working on a plan to have the riverfront trail cleaned up and ready for the beginning of spring.
