Some Roman politicians schemed in 140 B.C. a plan to win the votes of new citizens by giving out cheap food and entertainment, hence the phrase “bread and circuses” which would be the most effective way to rise to power. Bread and Circuses is also a metaphor for superficial appeasement.

Funny you should mention the Romans as we are now living in a new Roman Empire where the normal attitude is strength, beauty, hedonism, I got mine, sucks for you attitude. There is no reason for anyone in our great nation to go hungry or be impoverished, Mother Theresa once said, :if you can’t feed 100, feed just one. What have YOU done

In contrast to the Roman politicians seeking votes, Convoy of Hope is a non-profit organization started by an Assembly of God minister and they do stuff like all over the country.

Yes I know, but how does that explain your comment?
