Parts From Commercial Air Conditioning Units Stolen in Westfield

(WGGB) — Westfield police are investigating the thefts of a number of commercial air conditioning units.

Westfield Police Captain Michael McCabe tells ABC40 there have been at least three separate incidents this month alone.

The most recent occurred at Mestek where a condenser coil was stolen,”The people break into the units, steal the condensers  to get to the copper coils that run the condensers so they can scrap the copper coils at local scrap yards throughout the area,” says Captain McCabe.

The police captain also feels this kind of theft might be happening outside Westfield as well,” Probably within the last two weeks we’ve seen somewhere in the ballpark of $45,000 worth of air conditioning stuff stolen and we’re equally concerned that other communities are being hit as well,” says McCabe.

Surveillance images show two people leaving the scene in a white van.

Police are hoping these images will help them nab their suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call Westfield police at (413)572-6400.
