AMHERST, Mass. (WGGB) — Final arrangements have been announced for longtime UMass softball coach Elaine Sortino.
Sortino’s funeral will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Brigid’s Parish Community, also on North Pleasant Street.
Parking is available for those wishing to attend either service at the Boltwood garage, located behind the funeral home.
Burial will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery on Huntington Road in Hadley.
UMass Athletics notes that all three services are open to the public.
Sortino passed away Sunday after a two-year battle with cancer.
During her 34-year coaching career at the University, Sortino amassed a 1,185-508-6 (.705) record and led the Minutewomen to 23 Atlantic 10 regular season titles and 23 A-10 tournament championships.
She also took the team to 21 appearances in the NCAA tournament and three trips to the Women’s College World Series.
At the conclusion of the 2013 season, Sortino was the third-winningest active coach in Division I of the NCAA, and with 1,185 wins, she is the eighth winningest coach in NCAA history.
Coach Sortino was 64-year-old.
