HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — A large sink-hole has opened up right in the middle of a Holyoke intersection.
It happened early this morning during a heavy downpour near the intersection of Essex and Elm Streets.
A project manager for United Water says one of their lines deteriorated, which caused the sinkhole.
The resulting hole has forced the city to shut down that intersection.
United Water says they must replace the line before they can fill the sink hole.
They expect to complete repairs and reopen the intersection by the weekend.
