Suspicious Vehicle Forces Evacuation of Springfield Walmart

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Emergency crews responded to Walmart in Springfield Tuesday following a report of a suspicious car.

Dennis Leger, aide to Springfield’s fire commissioner, says that around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, a call came in for a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot near Walmart on Boston Road.

Inside the car, Leger explains, were four propane tanks, a gallon of an unknown liquid, and a boombox that had wires sticking out of it.

The owner of the car has come forward and is speaking with investigators.

Customers of Walmart were temporarily evacuated while the investigation was ongoing, but those people have been let back inside the building.

Leger says that the scene should be clearing up shortly.

No injuries were reported.
