Commonwealth Honors College Complex Unveiled

UMASS honors collegeAMHERST, Mass. (WGGB) — The University of Massachusetts in Amherst is looking to the future with a new residential complex.

The new Commonwealth Honors College Residential Community off Commonwealth Avenue was unveiled today.

The area is designed to create a community of scholars, and prepare future leaders with its honors curriculum.

There is space for 1,500 residents in six buildings and an administrative building for faculty and staff.  But this area is not exclusive to honors students only.  It’s meant to be inviting to all.

Dan Gordon, Acting Dean for Commonwealth Honors College told ABC40, “There’s a cafe that will be open to all students, the classrooms will be used for non-honors as well as honors classes and we’re nicely situated between the large Southwest Residential area and the recreation center.”

The Commonwealth Honors College complex is set to open on Friday.
