Has American Idol found its third judge?

Harry Connick Jr. is reportedly in talks to join the Fox reality show, according to E! Online. Connick, who has appeared as a mentor on the series before, would fill in the third slot at the judges table. The news comes just days after it was reported that producer and songwriter Dr. Luke will not be joining Idol.

The show is returning to a three-judge panel after last year’s foursome of Keith UrbanNicki MinajMariah Carey and Randy Jackson, who is reportedly in talks to replace Jimmy Iovine as a mentor on the show.

American Idol, which has yet to confirm the long-rumored return of Jennifer Lopez, is just several weeks away from auditions, which means the show will have to find a third judge and fast. Among those reportedly under consideration is Justin Bieber‘s manager Scooter Braun, whom Lopez suggested. Country star Urban is the only returning judge from last season’s four-person panel.
