West Springfield Residents Protest Casino

W.Spfld Casino protest W. Spfld casino protestWEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (wggb) – West Springfield residents took to Memorial Avenue this morning to protest Hard Rock’s proposed casino in the city.

The project would build an $800 million dollar Hard Rock casino on a portion of land at the Eastern States Exposition. Citizens in West Springfield remain divided on the issue. In a poll released last week 50 percent of residents are in favor of the casino, while 41 percent remain opposed, 9 percent remain undecided on the project. The referendum vote on the proposed casino is set to take place on September 1oth.

    I noticed that the only “yes” signs were almost in Holyoke while I was going to the mall today. Those people won’t be bothered by additional traffic and crime.
