LUDLOW, Mass. (WGGB) – Heavy winds and a number of lightning strikes plunged Western Massachusetts neighborhoods into darkness overnight. Crews from Western Mass Electric Company have been dispatched to several area cities and towns early Sunday morning.
Most severely hit was the town of Ludlow, where nearly 1,000 residents were reported as being without power shortly after midnight Sunday. A representative from WMECO told ABC40 that their crews are on scene, and working to restore power within the next few hours.
Areas of the Berkshires were similarly affected Saturday, when heavy wind and rain took out power lines and trees. Many of those residents are still without power, though WMECO is making progress.
