Former, Current Employees Protest Against Walmart

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB) — Current and former Walmart employees protested outside the company’s location in Chicopee today.

This is a nationwide movement that calls for better working conditions, including better hours and wages.

Many argue that Walmart doesn’t pay enough to support families.

“The company portrays that the average wage is $12.50 an hour and half of us aren’t making close to that,” says former employee Lucas Handy.

Fellow former employee Ruth Clements adds, “I was working there for so long. I was working under the poverty level…could not afford my rent, couldn’t afford even to survive and I spoke about it with a few managers and they listened, but really don’t care.”

The company calls the protests “a show” put on by the union activists and adds that the “vast majority” of its workers don’t share the opinions of the protesters.

Of course they would say that! They are a horrible company and will cut your hours at a moments notice and not care that you have a family to take care of! Its not a show and I bet the only ones who disagree with the strike are the ones who have contracts and guaranteed hours and pay, the rest are probably fearful of losing their jobs
