STURBRIDGE, Mass. (WGGB) — A New York man has been arrested and charged after State Police found 26 pounds of marijuana in his car early Friday morning in Sturbridge.

The State Police made the announcement on their Facebook page Friday afternoon.

Just before 2:00 a.m. a trooper with the Sturbridge Barracks pulled over a car on I-84 for a number plate violation and failure to signal. After conversing with the people inside the trooper began to suspect narcotics activity. So he called in back-up with a K-9 unit to search the vehicle.

When they arrived K-9 Alex alerted them to the odor of narcotics inside the car and that’s when the troopers found 26 pounds of marijuana in the trunk.

We reached out to the State Police and Trooper Todd Nolan told us that 23-year-old, Jiarui Liu from Brooklyn, NY was taken into custody at the scene and charged with Distribution of a Class D Substance.

He was arraigned in Dudley District Court Friday as well.
