Westside Group Holds Anti-Casino Event at ChurchWEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — With two days left before voters in Westside go to the polls to vote on a casino, both sides are making a hard press to the finish line.
Sunday night, those opposed to Hard Rock hosted a forum at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church on Elm Street.
The event was billed as a chance for residents to get their questions answered before Tuesday.
“We have an event with former Congressman Bob Steele from Connecticut, author and professor from Hampshire College, Bob Goodman, and financial consultant and expert Al Cabbot who has studied the host agreement with Hard Rock and they’re going to be speaking about the effect of casinos on a city or town that brings a casino into their town,” explained Nathan Bech of No Casino West Springfield, Inc.
His group hosted the forum.
They say they’re concerned about crime, traffic and damage to the city’s infrastructure.
