Authorities Search for Missing Plane in Alaska

small plane crashANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The Air Force and the Coast Guard are searching for a small plane missing since Monday in the Gulf of Alaska.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Jonathan Klingenberg says the pilot was the only person on board. The plane, a Piper PA-32 aircraft, was last reported about 42 miles west of Yakutat before it fell off the radar.

Authorities say they have not picked up any potential signals from an emergency locator transmitter, as first reported by KTOO.

Both the Air Force and the Coast Guard are using helicopters in the search Tuesday.

Klingenberg, who is based in Kodiak, said the piper was en route from Ketchikan to Anchorage.
