WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — The Big E is just a day away and last minute preparations are underway, amid July like heat.
“It’s a little hot, a little warmer today,” said Scott Walulak, owner of Ski Haus.
It was 96 degrees inside Walulak’s tent. It’s not something you’d expect when surrounded by the skis and snow boards he sells.
“It doesn’t slow me down, just burns some calories and burns some water weight.” said Walulak.
Wednesday night, the cars, carts and trucks were moving around everything needed for the 17 day fair. This while the tents went up, rides got tested and fryers got turned on.
People kept hydrated while working and even the animals took a break.
“It’s hard on the horses cause they are pretty sensitive, but a lot of showers, fans and a lot of walking,” said Jess Carr, Volo Farm.
“Yesterday it rains, at night it’s freezing, we got sweat pants and sweat shirts on, today we are sweating,” said Tony Calabrese.
Tony his wife Gina and Carol Delevo have seven stands at the Big E. They’ve been setting up for two weeks now and are thrilled for the arrival of the crowds.
“We are excited the weather is gonna be beautiful this weekend,” said Carol Delevo.
Some venders say they’ll be setting up until midnight Thursday.
The gates for the fair open at 8 am Friday.
