SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB)- Today friends and family gathered to remember Theodore Dimauro at his funeral followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Mt. Carmel Church in Springfield. Dimauro, former mayor for the city of Springfield, died on Friday at the age of 80. The cause of death wasn’t disclosed.
DiMauro was mayor from 1978 to 1984.
Prior to his role as mayor, DiMauro attended Springfield public schools, graduating from Springfield Technical High School, and continued his studies at St. Michael’s College, Boston College Law School, New York University. Teddy was dedicated to the betterment of the city of Springfield, serving the School Committee and City Council.
Family and friends remember his dedication to the city and a variety of political and charitable causes.
Family friend Tony Cignoli delivered the eulogy calling Dimauro caring, compassionate and someone who loved his family.
Cignoli also cited Dimauro’s legacy as mayor,” This is the end of an era, a time in Springfield that was transformed and Ted Dimauro was our transformer. The skyline we see in the city of Springfield, Ted Dimauro created most of that and he touched every single neighborhood in the city,” said Cignoli.
