The time marked when the first plane hit the twin towers. During the ceremony, families of the victims started reading aloud the names of those who died.

A second bell tolled at 9:03 a.m. rang to mark when the second plane hit the twin towers. Then the reading of the names resumed.

This morning there were local ceremonies closer to come. Many Western Massachusetts communities also held a moment of silence at the same times to pay tribute.
