Remembering 9/11, 12 Years Later: Local Ceremonies



SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) — As the Commonwealth and nation marks the 12th anniversary since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, several area cities and towns are holding remembrance events.

Events scheduled for Wednesday include:

Time: 6 p.m.
Where: Sons of Erin, 22 William Street
Event: commemoration of three 9/11 victims who were club members or related to club members

Time: 6:30 p.m.
Where: 26 Collin Drive, fire station
Event: Remembrance ceremony


Time: 6:30 p.m.
Where: St. Stanislaus, Bishop & Martyr Basilica, 570 Front Street
Event: memorial mass followed by light reception

Time: 8:00 p.m.
Where: East Longmeadow Fire Department 150 Somers Road
Event: 12th Annual Candlelight Vigil

HOLYOKE – 2 events
Time: 8:30 a.m.
Where: Soldier’s Home, 110 Cherry St
Event: Ceremony, followed by biographies of veterans

And then in the afternoon…
Time: 2 p.m.
Where: Soldier’s Home, 110 Cherry St
Event: “Walk with Veterans” program with Holyoke Community College

Time: 9:30 a.m.
Where: Agawam Fire Department Headquarters, 800 Main Street
Event: remembrance ceremony

Time: 9:45 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.
Where: Center Fire Station
Event: words by Department Chaplain; flag raising and lowering to half staff and ceremonial ringing of bell

Time: 10 a.m.
Where: Raymond Sullivan Public Safety Complex, 1212 Carew Street
Event: Mayor Sarno will join Springfield Police and Fire departments for ceremony


Time: 8:15 a.m.
Where: Town common at the “Eternal Flame” monument
Event: Memorial
