Athlete of the Week: Soccer Star, Deandrae Brown

athlete of week 1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB)- Our very first athlete of the week for this season is Deandrae Brown. He is a junior at Springfield Central High School and very important member of the boy’s soccer team.

With 8 goals in 3 games, Deandrae has kicked off the season just right!

“I want to lead my team to victory. First I want to get to playoffs; we haven’t been there in a couple years,” says Brown.

Team Captain, Ryan Thorpe appreciates his dedication during a game.  “He’s a force out there, works hard all the time, always gets to the ball, leads us when we’re down.”

Deandrae had two hat tricks just this week, but that’s not the only reason we selected him as our Athlete of the Week. His aim is for a more important goal than one in the net; being a team player.

“My team helps me out, they make me look good.  During yesterday’s game, my team the one that set me up for two of the goals, I was just the one to finish,” says Brown.

His coach adds that Deandrae always shares his contagious, positive energy.  “Kenny just missed a shot last game, it hit off the post, but D was right there to pick him up. He encouraged him to keep shooting and to keep going forward,” explains Coach Scott Arel.

“He brings a good chemistry, he really brings us together– he kind of just unifies us,” adds Captain Ethan Akerly.

From the field to the classroom Brown focuses on accomplishing all life goals.

“Grades are everything. That’s what I want to do, go to college get a good scholarship for grades and soccer,” says Deandrae.

Each day, Deandrae strives to be the best, well-rounded player for a team that has a lot of heart.
