Hard Rock Opens Music Memorabilia Display at the Big E

(WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass.) (WGGB)–The Big E is officially underway.

New England’s Great State Fair has something for everyone.

This year, music buffs won’t be disappointed by one exhibit.

The casino vote on Tuesday did not go Hard Rock’s way , the casino question was defeated by West Springfield voters, but that doesn’t mean Hard Rock isn’t represented at this year’s Big E, in fact some of Hard Rock’s most memorable and historic memorabilia is on display at the Young building.

From Jimi Hendrix guitar to a John Lennon gold album and denim jacket this Hard Rock display brings you back down musical’s memory lane,”There’s two themes to the exhibits here, one is gone too soon and the other is music gives back,” says Jeff Nolan, Hard Rock’s music and memorabilia historian.

Jeff Nolan sees firsthand the impact this kind of iconic display has on its audience,”It’s really impactful, people have a connection to music that’s different than pretty much any other kind of art,” says Nolan.

From Janis Joplin to Whitney Houston  this rock and roll exhibit covers a lot of ground.

Everyone has a favorite including the man who knows it best,”My personal favorite on this tour is probably Tommy Allsup’s wallet , Tommy was Buddy Holly’s guitar player on the final tour, and he rather famously lost a coin toss with Richie Valens for the last seat on the airplane , Tommy doesn’t get on the plane but his wallet did,” says Nolan.

There are 22 exhibits in this Hard Rock display , each with its own unique musical and historical perspective.

This display is one of three around the world right now, besides the one here in West Springfield, there are other displays in Asia and Europe at this time.

The display is located in the Young Building at the Big E.
