Saturday Night Live's Cecily Strong to Co-Anchor "Weekend Update" with Seth Meyers

Cecily Strong will join Seth Meyers as the co-anchor of “Weekend Update” when Saturday Night Livereturns for its 39th season later this month, the New York Times reports.

“Lets hope I make it through the first show without barfing or fainting!” Strong tweeted to MeyersSunday.

Strong was a fixture on the “Weekend Update” desk in her first year with the sketch show, with her character “Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party.”

“As for The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation with, it’s prob safe to assume that she died somewhere, mid-conversation,” Meyers tweeted Sunday.

Responded Strong: “I’m pretty sure she joined a cult.”

Meyers, who has hosted “Weekend Update” solo since Amy Poehler left in 2008, is leavingSNL in early 2014 to take over hosting duties at Late Night, but SNL showrunner Lorne Michaels told the Times that he’d love to have Meyers come back to host “Weekend Update” after he’s settled in at his new gig. 

Season 39 of Saturday Night Live premieres Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11:30/10:30c, with Tina Fey hosting and Arcade Fire performing. Are you looking forward to seeing Cecily and Seth team up for “Weekend Update”?
