Two Victims Identified in Holyoke Hit and Run

Car-Accident4HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) – The two people killed in an accident in Holyoke this morning have been identified.

Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse announced on his Facebook page that 23 year-olds Moira Murphy and Brian Callahan were killed in the accident early Sunday morning.

The accident occurred just before 2 a.m., when Holyoke Police were called to the scene of a two car accident at the intersection of Dwight and Beech Streets. When they arrived on the scene, they found a Honda Civic with four passengers and a Cadillac Seville with no occupants. The Holyoke Fire Department had to use the “Jaws of Life” to free the passengers from the car. They were transported to Baystate Medical Center, where Murphy and Callahan were pronounced dead.

After an investigation Holyoke Police identified and arrested the other driver as Jonathan Lopez, 21 of Springfield.

Lopez is charged with failure to stop, two counts of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation and five counts of leaving the scene of personal injury or death.
