Power Outage in Westfield Repaired

power outageWESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Power has been restored to parts of Westfield this evening after a number of customers lost electricity late in the day.

According to Police Lt. Pitoniak, they were first notified of the outage at about 5:00 p.m.

Springfield Road down by Walmart was one of the bigger areas that got hit.   Lt. Pitoniak told us earlier that they placed officers there to help direct drivers because the traffic lights were out.

The outage also occured on East Mountain Road and parts of Union Street police say.

In a recording from Westfield Gas and Electric on their main phone line shortly after power was lost they stated, “We are aware of an outage in the Union Street, Springfield Road,  Eastwood Acres, Paper Mill Road (areas) and surrounding streets.  Crews have been dispatched.”

The electric company continues to investigate what caused the outage.  Power was restored at 7:00 p.m. tonight.
