(WGGB) — Apple has released an overhaul to their mobile operating system, iOS, and brings with it a new look and feel.
As Apple’s two newest phones – the 5S and the 5C – go on sale this Friday, some may be excited about the new handsets which have 64-bit computing power, a souped-up camera and the feature many are talking about, the Touch ID fingerprint reader.
The biggest change, however, is actually the operating system, iOS 7, which can be downloaded starting today to freshen up the iPhone 4, 4S and 5, as well as some iPads and the iPod touch.
The new system has a new design and new features as well.
“I think the good thing about today is that if you have a 4 or above that, you’re actually going to get in a way a new iPhone. They’re releasing iOS 7 today which is a new software for the iPhone and it really feels like a brand new software system. It’s got different colors, different features, so that’s the good news for people that are not rushing out to upgrade,” says ABC News Tech Editor Joanna Shapiro.
The update was released at 1:00 this afternoon and is apparently very popular already. Many people here in the ABC40 Newsroom had to wait a long time for their devices to update to the new system.
The newer editions of the iPhone 5 hit store shelves on Friday.
