Good-bye Shannon!

SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) — It’s the day we at ABC40 knew was coming, while secretly hoping it never would.

News Anchor Shannon Hegy will be leaving for WPRI in Providence after 6 years of moving up the ranks at WGGB. Shannon’s talent coming right out of Hofstra University helped her skyrocket from part-time assignment desk, to reporter, to main anchor.

Shannon has been busy anchoring ABC40 at 5-6:30pm, 10pm, and 11pm, and has covered some of the biggest stories of the year, including the Boston Marathon Bombing and the tragedy in Newtown, CT.

It’s appropriate that Shannon’s last day is out at The Big E, where her personality and chemistry with co-Anchor Dave Madsen will be on full display.

You can catch Shannon one last time tonight on ABC First on FOX and ABC40 Eleven @ 11:00.

She will be missed, but we know she’ll do great! Please join us in wishing Shannon well by commenting below.

We will definitely miss you each day broadcasting the news. My daughter is a cousin to Kenna’s dad. She is a beautiful little girl. I wish you the best of luck but you will sadly be missed.

I thought it was a parallel move at first, but Nielsen says Springfield/Holyoke is #114 in market size and Providence/New Bedford is #53 (what, aren’t there any people here in western Mass?). Boston was #7. I wonder if the move to RI has something to do with her husband’s job too?

First comment had a link to the Nielsens, so it may not appear.

    Hi Shannon,
I personally will miss you a lot. And I’m sure everyone at WGGB will as well.
No one can possibly take your place. I wish you weren’t leaving WGGB, but since you are, I wish you all the best your new position has to offer. They are getting a fantastic Lady on their team.
Please keep in touch, on Twitter.
God Bless You on your new journey and God bless your husband too.

Shannon, you have been by far the best that has graced our local media in quite sometime in my opinion. Other than Ray and Dave who have been our constants everyone else on the news, no matter what station, well they just shouldn’t be! You are so well-spoken, relatable, reliable, knowledgable, you don’t just read. I feel reporting the news no matter how big or small the market takes special people that do it for a reason, the right reasons and you’re one them. Best to you Shannon, hope Providence knows how lucky they are!
