WARE, Mass. (WGGB) — A home in Ware has been destroyed by a fire that tore through it early this evening following an explosion that occurred there.
Multiple firefighters responded to the 3-alarm house fire in Ware at 54 East Street. We started receiving reports about the incident shortly before 5:00 p.m.
The Ware Fire Department along with the town of Warren responded to the burning home quickly after receiving calls about it.
At this time, crews have been able to bring the flames under control, but remain on scene.
Red Cross spokesperson Donna Toupin says they’ve sent a team of volunteers over to help assist the homeowners who’ve been displaced.
Our crew spoke with the Ware Fire Department Fire Chief who explained that the homeowners’ child was outside when he heard an explosion. That’s when he ran into the house and got his father out along with their pet dog.
At this time it’s not known what caused the explosion, but the homeowners did have some propane stored in the back of the house.
No one was injured when the flames erupted and the father and son were able safely escape.
The Ware Fire Chief reports the home is a total loss with $150,000 to $175,000 estimated in damages.
The incident remains under investigation.
