The Big E: A Family Affair

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — ABC 40’s Brittany Decker spends the day as part of the Grabarz family.

As the Grabarz family enters the Big E, each has their own idea of fun…but in reality it’s all about the kids.

“We’re in charge I say go get a cream puff,” says one of their daughters.

“We try to go on the rides first but then they say we have to wait for our food to digest,” says their son, “Let’s go!”

The mom’s job? To make sure they are smiling.  “The kids just having fun, that’s all I care about,” says Kim Grabarz.

But no fooling us here, the ladies still have some time for themselves-to do important things, like shopping!

“Oh look at these cool glasses, Karen look,” says Kim to her daughter.

It’s the hero dad’s here at The Big E that have the tough job. “Waiting.  Another pit stop,” explains Dad, Jim Grabarz.

“The guys are just lagging behind following the moms and doing what we are telling them to do,” explains Kim.

“Yeah I want to get to the food,” notes Jim.

“Let me give this to daddy, your turn. We are going to go right in here,” says Kim at one point during their shopping experience.

“Great, Christmas shopping already,” grunts Jim jokingly, “Why don’t we look for a Halloween shop?  Maybe not so many stops at these shopping booths.”

“I’m the bank apparently,” he adds smiling.

Doing what dad’s do best.  Picking up the family (kids are on a fire truck) and helping them down.

They just hope to check off their to-do list, sometime before heading home.

“Check out the sites get some good food,” explains Jim who told us what he likes to eat, “Baked potatoes, apple pies, and a steak sandwich.”

There is one thing the family can agree on, spending the entire day together.   And one of their children summed it up best, “No school, no work, just fun and eating lots of junk food. Yeah eating cream puffs, yeah it’s all about the cream puffs.”
