Thousands Headed to The Big E Saturday Cause Major Traffic Delays

photo 1WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Although the weather was not perfect, it was a huge day at The Big E Saturday in West Springfield.

Thousands of people came out for a gray day at the fair, but that meant major traffic backups across the area.

Springfield Police’s traffic bureau were out directing traffic at crowded intersections. Police even began pulling over and ticketing drivers who were blocking busy intersections.

Some of the heaviest traffic was concentrated on the Memorial Bridge and on I-91.

Traffic began to clear shortly after 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

If you’re headed out tomorrow – possibly to The Big E or around Springfield and West Springfield – you may want to head out early or use alternate routes.

not everyone is headed to the Big E….people need to travel 91 for work purposes too. Alternate routes may not be feasible, either.
