UMass-Dartmouth honors marathon bombing victims

UMass DartmouthDARTMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is holding a special ceremony to honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

The Saturday ceremony coincides with International Peace Day and a cross country meet at the school.

University officials, students and others are planting a peace tree to honor not only those killed and injured in the April 15 explosions at the marathon’s finish line, but also the police, firefighters and other first responders who rushed to the scene.

Three people were killed and more than 260 injured, including many who lost legs.

The surviving marathon bombing suspect was a student at UMass-Dartmouth.
