WEST SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) — While the weather took a turn for the worse at The Big E this weekend, the attendance numbers did not.
The threat of rain on Saturday did not keep fair-goers away, as 150,407 people made their way through the turnstiles Saturday. It was the biggest turnout of the 2013 fair, but not a record showing for the day.
The attendance record was set on Friday, when 96,417 people came out for The Big E.
“We’ve set two attendance records so far this year,” said Eugene Cassidy, the President and CEO of the Eastern States Exposition, “on the opening Friday and then this past Friday, two record-setting days.”
Cassidy lamented the fact that Saturday brought a near-record turnout saying, “the rains didn’t cooperate with us. It came down pretty heavy and that kind of slowed things down.”
On Sunday, just over 99,000 people headed out to New England’s largest fair, bringing the total attendance so far this year to 835,831.
