Best new car deals

A great price isn’t necessarily a good deal if the vehicle doesn’t measure up. This month’s featured vehicle has an attractive customer rebate that can save you extra money, and it is recommended by Consumer Reports, as are all models detailed below.

See all current deals on recommended cars. Other trims on the vehicles listed may also present good deals. The full information is found in the New Car Price Reports. Then, continue your research by comparing ratings, reliability, reviews, fuel economy, performance, and much more with our New Car Selector (available to online subscribers).

$2,288 savings available (expires 9/30/13)

This fun-to-drive small car is pleasant and practical achieving 32 mpg overall in our tests. Handling is precise and responsive, and the ride is firm but comfortable. However, road noise is pronounced. Inside, the quality is very good, but rear-seat room is tight. Crash test results are impressive. The new 2014 Mazda3 is headed to showrooms this fall, so dealers may be more willing to negotiate additional savings on the outgoing model.

How this information can help you get the best priceThe key to getting the lowest price on a car is to know how much negotiating room you have. That means knowing all of the current sales incentives, including behind-the-scenes dealer perks. That information is what makes the CR Bottom Line Price the best place to begin your new-car negotiations. It’s calculated by subtracting any rebates, dealer incentives, or holdback amounts from the dealer-invoice price. That gives you a good idea of how much negotiating room you have below the car’s sticker price. Armed with those figures, you can often save thousands of dollars when buying a new car. Get the CR Bottom Line Price on your next new car through Consumer Reports’ New Car Price Reports.
