Section of Route 202 in South Hadley Back Open Following Motorcycle Crash

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WGGB) — Police blocked off a section of Route 202 going towards Granby in South Hadley for hours tonight following an accident there involving a motorcycle and a sedan.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. in the area of Columbia Street near Granby Road which is also Route 202.

The South Hadley Police Department kept the road closed until shortly after 10:00 p.m.   During that time officers re-directed traffic onto Brigham Road while emergency personnel worked the scene.

The motorcycle was severely damaged in the crash and the sedan suffered back-end damage as well.

No word yet on the condition of the motorcyclist or if anyone else was injured in this incident, however neighbors reported seeing two ambulances leave the scene with a patient aboard each.

When we mentioned to Granby Police Sgt. Gary Poehler that witnesses were saying the motorcycle was going very fast, Poehler told us, “The motorcyclist was most definitely speeding.”

Poehler went on to explain that the operator was clocked at going over 100 mph when going by one of their cruisers in Granby just prior to the crash in South Hadley.   At that time they chose not to pursue the motorcyclist for safety reasons.

The motorcycle ended up crashing in South Hadley over a mile-and-a-half from where the Granby officer last saw it.

South Hadley police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this crash.
