SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WGGB) — The newly renovated Forest Park Middle School was opened for tours to the public Tuesday night. The original school was built in the 1890s.
After a lengthy application process, the city was reimbursed 90% of the cost to renovate the school into a 21st century facility. It includes a new gymnasium, classrooms, smart boards, science labs, and media center. Superintendent Dan Warwick says the new amenities will allow students to achieve the academic success they need.
“The students and staff are just so thrilled with the new environment. You know, we designed it with a lot of staff input. So they are just really thrilled with the way it came out. They waited a long time,” Warwick said. “Again, I was here the first week of school went in and talked with kids in every classroom and they are just ecstatic.”
The state also reimbursed the city 90% to build the new Putnam Vocational High School that is already operating. New renovations are still scheduled for Brookings Elementary School and Central High School.
