Chicopee Man Identified as Driver in Westfield Crash

Police Lights Shattered GlassWESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — State Police have identified the driver who died after crashing in Westfield Thursday following a police pursuit as 43-year-old, Glenn Madison.

Madison is from Chicopee.

At about 7:00 a.m. Thursday State Police attempted to pull over a 2003 Honda Civic sedan on East Silver Street in Westfield.  The trooper noticed the Honda had an expired registration and suspected the driver had a revoked license as well.  But the car didn’t stop, so the trooper began a brief pursuit.  A short time later though he ended the pursuit for safety reasons.

Then at about 7:25 a.m., the Southwick Police Department reported they were involved in a chase of a car matching the description of the vehicle sought in the earlier traffic stop.

Ten minutes later, Southwick Police notified State Police that the car had crashed on Shaker Road in Westfield while going eastbound.  According to authorities, the sedan crossed into the westbound lane, and struck a utility pole at the edge of the roadway shearing it in half.   The car then rolled over and State Police report Madison was thrown from the vehicle.

The State Police and detectives attached to the office of the Hampden District Attorney continue to investigate this crash.
