Governor Patrick Weighs In on WSU President Controversy

DobelleWESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — The future of Westfield State University president, Evan Dobelle remains a clouded one amid controversy over his spending practices.

Criticism is mounting against Dobelle after the school’s auditing firm found that the president and top university officials violated travel and credit card policies on trips to places like London, Vienna, and San Francisco.

During a stop in Springfield today, Governor Patrick expressed concern about the spending.

“There has to be accountability for the spending and I think the Westfield State Board gets that and I know there’s some follow-up questions which need to be taken seriously by president Dobelle and answered thoroughly,” explains Gov. Patrick.

Meanwhile trustees at Westfield State University are preparing for a special meeting to discuss concerns raised by higher education officials about Dobelle’s spending.  The date has yet to be set.
