SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – Thrid graders in Springfield received a special gift on Monday. Four hundred dictionaries were delivered to five elementary schools across the city, as part of The Dictionary Project.
Brookings, Rebecca Johnson, Milton Bradley, Home Street and William Deberry elementary schools all took part. It’s all in an effort to help students become good writers, active readers, creative thinkers and resourceful learners.
The dictionaries are given to students to take home and keep for their own. The program has been adopted by individuals, businesses and civic organizations all over the country. Eighteen million dictionaries have given to children since the program began in 1995.
