Wilfork Undergoes Surgery on Ankle
(WGGB) — Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork has undergone surgery following an injury he sustained Sunday.
His wife, Bianca, posted a photo on her Twitter account Tuesday afternoon. In the tweet, a picture shows the five-time Pro Bowl selection in a chair, with his right ankle and foot in a cast, and Wilfork giving a thumbs-up.
Along with the picture, Bianca Wilfork wrote, “Thanking God for a successful surgery.”
Wilfork injured his ankle during the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Falcons in Atlanta. He was able to make it off the field on his own power, but was seen a short time later on the back of a cart being taken back to the locker room.
There has not been any official word on Wilfork’s injury, but several reports Monday indicated that he suffered a torn Achilles tendon.
When asked Monday about the prospect of Wilfork returning to play this season, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick told WEEI that “It doesn’t look too good for Vince. I think he’s got a pretty serious injury and it’s probably unlikely that he’ll be able to play again this year.”
