Woman Dead in Crash on Mass. Pike in Russell
RUSSELL, Mass. (AP) — State police say a Pittsfield woman has died after a tractor-trailer struck her disabled vehicle on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Russell.
Police say the pickup truck in which the woman was a passenger stopped at about 8 p.m. Monday in the right hand westbound lane on a part of the highway where there are no breakdown lanes.
The stopped vehicle was struck from behind as the truck was making its way up a hill.
Police say 37-year-old Maria Eugenia Fajardo was declared dead at the scene. Two Pittsfield men who were in the same vehicle were injured and taken to the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
