Virtual Welding A Popular Program at Chicopee CompMass (WGGB) — Career technology programs are a big part of learning at Chicopee Comprehensive High School. The welding program is one of the most popular. Students are now training on a virtual welder. It teaches the students metal fabrication, welding and design. Instructor Michael Douville says the benefits of using a virtual welder are twofold. He adds, “Not only do you save on energy, you save on material usage. And it’s a great training tool, it’s very realistic for the kids and to us as well.”
And these young welders should have no trouble finding work. Douville says by the year 2020, there will be a shortage of upwards to 300 thousand welders nationwide.
