SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Last November, several officers were stationed near Dickinson Street, patrolling in secret.
They were there to protect a fellow officer who was posing as a prostitute, but before they nabbed any johns, an entirely different crime captured their attention.
“There were police officers all around to protect her and while they were sitting there, all of a sudden Mr. Calderon comes on the scene near Johnson Street and Belmont Avenue and what took place is the officer watched a car pull up and they observed Calderon selling crack cocaine to the customers that showed up,” says Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.
Police say, like most drug deals, the exchange was likely prearranged. They say Melvin Calderon just picked the wrong place to meet.
“After the drug deal took place, they went over and arrested the customer and they also arrested him for distribution of crack cocaine and violation of a drug-free school zone,” says Delaney.
Calderon was taken to court, but he’s since defaulted on the charges.
“We’re looking for him still, somewhere in the city of Springfield,” says Delaney. “He’s also wanted by the West Springfield Police Dept. for possession of cocaine.”
If you see Calderon, call 911 or you can send police an anonymous tip. Just text it to “CRIMES” or 274637 and in the message type “SOLVE” and your tip.
