BOSTON (AP) — The new leader of the Boston office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives wants to focus on taking illegal guns off the streets to make neighborhoods safer.

Daniel Kumor, a career ATF special agent, started work as leader of the Boston Field Division last month.

Kumor said he wants to focus on firearms trafficking because that leads directly to violent gun crimes, which affects neighborhoods and communities.

Kumor worked in the Boston district as an assistant special agent in charge 11 years ago and later worked at the ATF’s headquarters in Washington as chief of the Office of International Affairs.
