Springfield Fire Department Does Prevention Demonstrations

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — It’s fire prevention week and the Springfield Fire Department has been out and about educating people on fire risks.

On Friday evening, they were at the Eastfield Mall, where they had their “S.A.F.E. Trailer.”

It’s a trailer where they can do various saefty demonstations.

One of those demonstrations teaches kids about the escaping a smokey room.

“By showing children and parents what smoke does, it helps them appreciate why they should roll out of bed and crawl out of their room. The smoke is harmless, that we use, but the children see that it rolls over the ceiling, banks, and slowly starts to get lower. One of the lessons we teach is stay low and go, get out of the room,” said Willie Spears of the Springfield Fire Department.

One of the other demonstrations was on kitchen fires.

Firefighters also say you should always have a lid you can cover a pot or pan with to put out a fire handy.
