Deal Reached Regarding the Status of West Springfield Capt. Dan O’Brien

Captain O'Brien

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A deal has been reached between West Springfield Police Captain Dan O’Brien and the town.

A meeting between O’Brien, Mayor Gregory Neffinger, and attorneys was held Friday afternoon at town hall.

O’Brien has been on paid leave for nearly two years over accusations of excessive force.

The city released a report on the investigation one week ago.

After emerging from the meeting early Friday night, all parties indicated that a deal had been reached, but the details of that agreement won’t be released until sometime next week.

When asked for his reaction, O’Brien told ABC40′s Brendan Monahan that he was “pleased” with the outcome.

West Springfield Police Chief Ronald Campurciani also said that it was a “fair deal” for both sides, and Neffinger echoed that sentiment.

When asked if O’Brien still had a job with the department, those in the meeting said that he remains on paid administrative leave. As to whether O’Brien will be a Captain with the police force, ABC40 was told that those details would have to wait until next week.

O’Brien’s attorney, Timothy Burke, says he won’t sue the town or anyone else involved in the matter.
