HVAC Techs Busy as Cooler Weather Approaches
AGAWAM, Mass. (WGGB) –HVAC technician Chris Murdock’s third stop of the day is at an Agawam home, to check the heating system. “This is a routine maintenance call, a tune up. the unit runs off refrigeration. Air conditioning, which just reverses its cycle, takes the heat from the outside and brings it into the inside,” he explained.
If you’re worried about whether or not your heating system is in working condition, calling a company to check it out might be your best bet, instead trying to tackle it yourself.
Murdock checked the unit while it’s still running, so he can check amps and refrigerant pressures.
Berkshire Heating and Air Conditioning is getting a lot of calls like this, to make sure heating systems are up to par before they’re stuck in the cold. “We have everything from the batteries in their thermostat went dead, to a serious problem. Anything I can stress to anybody for efficiency is the maintenance on their home. Getting those tune-ups done is the biggest impact for energy savings throughout the year,” said the company’s Service Manager, Joshua Smith.
Before you make a maintenance call, you should make sure your unit is actually broken, since those home visits can tend to get costly.
To help keep your home warm, you can also clean your gutters, and seal all leaks and openings.
