Springfield’s Street Crime Unit Arrests Two Drug Suspects
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — The city’s Street Crime Unit is being credited for the arrest of two alleged drug dealers.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney says that last night, members of the department’s Street Crime Unit were on patrol in the area of Cambridge and Burr Streets, “targeting known gang and drug sectors in the city.”
Delaney adds that a surveillance officer saw two men allegedly involved in a drug transaction, with plastic bags in their hands.
The Street Crime Unit then moved in and arrested the men, identified by police as 20-year-old Tavon Williamson and 26-year-old Jonathan Mitchell both of Springfield.
Officers also confiscated “a large quantity of crack cocaine packaged for sale along with $1,400 in cash,” Delaney says.
Williamson and Mitchell are both being charges with possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute. They are set to be arraigned Thursday in Springfield District Court.
