DANVERS, Mass. (AP) — A classmate of a 14-year-old Massachusetts boy charged with killing his teacher says she heard the instructor ask the teen to stay after school the day she was killed.
Philip Chism is charged with murder in the death of Colleen Ritzer, a math teacher at Danvers High School.
Rania Rhaddaoui sat two seats away from Chism in Algebra I class. She says Chism was drawing in a notebook rather than taking notes Tuesday. She says she heard Ritzer ask Chism to stay after class, the last period of the school day.
When she and other students left, she saw Chism still sitting in his chair.
Ritzer never returned home that day. Her body was found in the woods behind the school the next morning.
Chism was picked up walking along a road.
